I recently had an opportunity to think about the name of our company✨

Someone I know who started their own business once said that they still feel they have not fully realized the thoughts and ideals they put into their company name. Hearing that made me reflect once again on the meaning behind our own company name.

“Silkom” is a name created by combining the Japanese word "shiru", meaning “to know,” and "communication" 😊.
And the reason it is Silkom, not Silcom, is that it also contains a little playful reference to our cat, Silk🐈

When we provide interpreting services, we always want to know as much as possible about the people who are actually communicating, their backgrounds, the purpose of the conversation, what kind of people they are, what they are thinking, what they most want to convey, and what they hope to achieve.

Based on that understanding, I believe the role of our company is to help each communication setting come together and support our clients in achieving their goals.

Of course, in reality, it is not always possible to work with sufficient information or to fully understand everything in advance. Even so, as we work alongside, and at times speak on behalf of,  those actually involved in the conversations, we try to use my imagination and make every effort to know and understand as much as we can.

Naturally, studying the necessary background knowledge is also essential for “knowing.”
So we will continue to make steady efforts in this regard✨
