Our company name, "Silkom," represents the two important Japanese words; “Silu”, which means “to know”, and "Communication." You might wonder why not “Silcom” instead…? That’s because our beloved cat’s name is “Silk”🤭!

We will help to foster meaningful communication by understanding the context behind your words, so that your message is conveyed with clarity and intent. 

We provide interpreting services tailored to your needs, whether for meetings, seminars, training sessions, or business negotiations.

The speaker pauses periodically to allow the interpreter to translate what was said. When using consecutive interpreting, the overall time required is typically about twice as long as without interpretation.

The interpreter listens to the speaker through specialized equipment and interprets simultaneously. Typically, this requires a team of two interpreters, with more added depending on the complexity or duration of the event.
We also offer whispered interpreting (chuchotage), where the interpreter sits next to the listener and quietly interprets in real time. In some cases, simple interpreting equipment may be used.

We support various online platforms, including Zoom’s simultaneous interpretation function and Microsoft Teams, to provide both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting remotely.
* You may occasionally hear a cute cat meowing in the background, or catch a glimpse of the tip of a fluffy tail at the top of the screen; however, it will not affect our operations.

Meetings and Seminars

We provide interpreting for internal and external meetings, presentations, client visits, business negotiations, contract discussions, and seminars for both in-house and external audiences.

Interpreting for Remote Meetings

We support remote meetings conducted via platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, offering both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting services.

Interviews and Media Coverage

We offer interpreting for media interviews -including magazines, books, television, and radio, as well as for interviews conducted in HR and recruitment contexts.

Social Gatherings and Parties

We also support interpreting for informal settings such as social gatherings, networking events, and receptions, facilitating smooth communication in small talk and casual conversations.

Q: How is interpreting priced?

A: Rates vary depending on the content, duration, and scale of the assignment. After hearing about your specific needs, we will propose the most suitable setup and provide a detailed quote based on that information.

Q: How far in advance should I request interpreting services?

A: Please contact us as soon as your plans are confirmed. We may be able to accommodate even last-minute requests, depending on availability.

Q: For long simultaneous interpreting sessions, can I request multiple interpreters?

A: Yes, depending on the availability of interpreters registered with us, we can arrange a team of interpreters for extended assignments.

Q: Can you interpret “cat language”?

A: Unfortunately, we haven’t mastered feline fluency just yet—but we’re always listening closely to “meow-speak” and working toward the day we can interpret it!
